Recently: Our Project Pie Experience

| Posted in Food Trips

Here’s the thing. Anything with the word “artisan” and “pizza” makes me think happy thoughts. And when I heard of a place that serves “artisan pizza”, I just knew it’s going to be our new happy place. So off to Project Pie we went, my husband and I. And because we love trying out food places with people we love hanging out with, we demanded our friends Paul and Melody to join us.

A rundown of how “designing your own pizza” at Project Pie works: You can either choose from their selection of 7 pre-designed pizzas, and just add more toppings as you go. Or you can build one from scratch, which is what we opted to do.

Building your pizza from scratch, you begin by choosing from either “Red Pizza” (tomato based) or “White Pizza” (olive oil based). Then you pick your toppings, (yes, turo-turo style)from a variety of cheese, meat, vegetables and spices. I had bacon, mushroom, tomato, green pepper, and herbs on my pie. And cheese. Lots and lots of cheese. Mozzarella, Gorgonzola, Ricotta, Parmesan, Feta Cheese.. all of them please, thank you.  (more…)

Recently: Madison’s Bistro Moderne Double Date

| Posted in Food Trips

Our friends Rachel and Noel have been inviting us to Madison’s Bistro Moderne since it opened early this year, but it wasn’t until last week that we found time to go. As appetizers were served and I munched on this thing they call “Speck and Goat Cheese Mousse”, I wondered why on earth we waited this long to try out Madison’s!

Madisons Bistro Moderne

Madisons Bistro Moderne

Madison’s Bistro Moderne, though it looks more like a fine-dining restaurant, is actually not one. They were very specific about going for a “casual” experience more than a fine-dining one, hence calling it a “bistro”. In spite of the posh interiors, anyone can come in and enjoy good food here, even while wearing slippers or shorts. (Yes, no dress code!) However, it may be wise to make reservations because the place is almost always jam-packed!

Don’t be surprised, also, if you find yourself sitting next to a high-profile persona as you dine at Madison’s. Case in point, Pops Fernandez and her friends entered the bistro and took the table next to ours. Why, hello there, do we know each other?

Moving forward. I feel the need to reiterate that describing food is not exactly my blogging forte, so don’t expect a professional-sounding food review. What I do love is keeping tab of my food trips, taking photos of food, and places, and interiors.. and making memories with people I love.

That being said, here are photographs of what we ordered!

Madison's Bistro Moderne - Speck and Goat Cheese Mousse

Appetizer: Speck and Goat Cheese Mousse
Truffle Scent, Apple Mustard Chutney

—Can I just say, I can eat this Speck and Goat Cheese Mousse the whole day and still want more. First impressions last, and as the first dish served to us, this appetizer really did make a huge first impression! You. MUST. Order. This. When you visit Madison’s Bistro. I insist.

Madison's Bistro Moderne

Pan Seared PolentaSausage in Tomato and Cheese Sauce

—This one is not yet in the menu so we played a little game called “Guess What’s In This Dish”. We got the sausages and the tomatoes right, no sweat, but that white thing was a little tricky. We guessed potato, or bread, or some kind of pastry, only to find out from the chef that it’s actually.. cheese. I love it when something tastes soooo good but you don’t know what it is.

Madison's Bistro Moderne - Confit Pork Belly

Main Course: Confit Pork Belly
with Potato Gratin, Braised Balsamic Lentils and Thyme Jus

—My order, they say, is a best-seller, and I found out why. The serving was huge (I was so full after this one), and the pork was so juicy and tasty I don’t think I’ll ever eat pork the same way again.

Madison's Bistro Moderne - Braised Lamb Shank

One of their best-sellers: Pan Roasted Duck Breast (Bud and Rache’s orders)
with Orange Sauce, Caramelized Cauliflower, Bacon, Potato Gallette and Asparagus
—This one is not for the faint hearted. :)

Noel ordered a plate of delicious looking burger sliders with side fries, and I remember taking a picture, but I can’t find it in my phone, which makes me think that someone (most likely a little girl below 2 years old) played with my phone and accidentally deleted pictures. Guess who.

Anyway. I’m a dessert person, the total opposite of my husband who’s not very fond of sweets. So you can imagine my giddiness when these were served:

Panna Cota – Vanilla with Strawberry Consomme —to die for!

Madison's Bistro Moderne - PISTACHIO. Mousse tart with mascarpone cream

Pistachio – Mousse Tart with Mascarpone Cream
—this one is Rache’s order, but she let me taste it too and it’s soooo good.

The best part of the night, I have to say, is catching up with Noel and Rache. You probably remember them from this post, except that they’re married now. I haven’t been seeing these two a lot, but I love how we can always pick up where we left off.

Noel and Rache

Us

I knew Rache since when she was a little girl, and I love how we, together with our (sanguine) husbands, find ourselves in the same page now, able to talk about married life, and career, and businesses, and music, and love, and God, and faith, in a level that not many people will understand.

You gotta love great food and great conversations, and that night we were full with both. :)

Madison's Bistro Moderne, Mandaluyong

With full-disclosure, Noel is actually a partner at Madison’s Bistro Moderne, and we celebrate with them for finding fulfillment and success in their married life, their business ventures, and their leaps of faith. :)

So yay, friends, go ahead and visit Madison’s Bistro Moderne! I guarantee you’re bound to find something you’ll eventually crave for from their menu, but promise me you won’t forget to order that Speck and Goat Cheese thing. Pinky swear.

29/52: Who do you share your Mcdo BFF fries with?

| Posted in Dawn & Rain, Food Trips

Photographs of my daughters, every week, once a week, this 2014. Week 29.

29/51

Dawn goes, “I’m eating, no pictures please.”
And Rain’s like, “Don’t touch my fries.”

We tried it, my husband and I, to finish one order of BFF fries, just the two of us. We couldn’t finish it. There were some leftovers, and I felt like I gained 5 pounds after, which was horrible. I must have vowed never to order BFF fries again, until a few weeks later, when we found TWO valid excuses to order BFF fries.

Yep, these two french fries monsters!

29/52

29/52

We try to keep their french fries consumption in moderation, of course. But sometimes, we just can’t help it. We have to order french fries! Ordering french fries means we can let them eat on their own, minus the gooey mess, while my husband and I finish our burgers in peace. Hello, Mommy and Daddy’s new favorite place!

29/52

29/52

It doesn’t feel like a long time ago when I celebrated my 25th birthday with a McDonalds Kiddie Party. Or when my husband and I went to McDo one Saturday afternoon just to get caramel sundaes. And now? Now we’re taking our daughters to that place.

At the risk of sounding like a McDO groupie, I love the thought that McDo gets to keep small pieces of everyone’s memories and milestones just by serving us some burgers and fries.

It used to be just the two of us eating sundaes and fries at McDonalds, and now we have these two little girls sharing our McDo BFF fries with us. I know it’s nothing grand, this double scoop of fries; but we all know that at the end of the day, it’s simple joys like this that keeps us going. ;)

Our 2nd anniversary dinner at La Creperie Boheme

| Posted in Food Trips, Married Life

Last year we went to Tagaytay to celebrate our first anniversary. I was so bloated at 7 months at that time, and I remember smiling at the thought that a few years from now, we’ll be tagging along two little girls on anniversaries, dinners, and random dates.

We may have another year, or a few months, before that happens. In the meantime, we’re enjoying stolen date nights and making room in our schedule to spend time with each other, without the twins. And often it still feels like I’m a giddy high school girl every time we go out on dates or hold hands while walking.

Hee. More keso later, but for now, let’s talk about La Creperie.

Lovin’ the new La Creperie in New Manila

We had our second anniversary dinner the night before the 13th. We asked my Mom to watch over the twins while we sneak out to have a date, and off to the new La Creperie we go. My husband and I love it. As Martine puts it, their New Manila branch is their most romantic branch yet, and I agree. (Or am I just too in love with my date that everywhere we go feels romantic?)

Celebrating our 2nd Anniversary at La Creperie

Chicken Salad and French Onion Soup by La Creperie

Baked Fish with Dijon Mustard

Happily Married for 2 Years!

La Creperie Boheme

Definitely a place to go back to.

La Creperie has always been known as the place to go if you want to have a feel of Parisin the Philippines. And while Paris is never really in my dream destinations list, I love the Parisian/bohemian ambiance that La Creperie exudes, it feels like stepping inside a totally different world.

And we enjoyed the food! We had Chicken Salad which I really enjoyed, and French Onion Soup and Baked Fish with Dijon Mustard that my husband really loved. For dessert we had Banana Foster crepe and a caramel flavored TWG red tea that I’m crazy about. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back there now, if only for the crepe and the tea.

The salad is good for sharing, we split the soup as well, but you might want to order the main dishes separately if you want to stuff yourself. It was past 9:00 when we had this post-dinner date, and we already had a light dinner beforehand, so it makes sense to share orders. Also, my husband and I like sharing because it’s romantic that way he and I both know that I’m pretty much the one who’s going to devour the dessert anyway, while he finishes everything else. (I’m a dessert person.)

Check out the new La Creperie in New Manila. It’s along Broadway street just in front of McDonalds (E. Rodriguez). For more info, check out their Facebook Page HERE. Thanks, Martine, for introducing me to La Creperie. :)

Taking a trip down the Memory Lane

| Posted in Family & Friends, Food Trips, Photo Dump

I did say I was going to upload more photographs of Memory Lane, that quaint little cafe in Tagaytay my friends and I visited last month. Well, here they are.

Owned by Jolina Magdangal, Memory Lane reminds me of Hansel and Gretel’s house of candies, except you can’t eat its floors and walls. With its retro vibe and vintage collection all over the place, Memory Lane surely is as eye candy as it can get!

I don’t have much to say about the food. We only ordered some cheese sticks and kebabs out of courtesy, just because we spent too much time taking pictures and we had to consume the 100 peso parking fee.

Tagaytay is known for its food strips, and surely there are countless of restaurants in the area that offer better and cheaper food than this one. But what’s worth the trip down the Memory Lane is the place itself, coz it seemed like it was built to be a tourist attraction / romantic getaway / barkada hangout more than a specialty restaurant.

Then again, what’s worth the trip anywhere at all is the people you’re trippin’ with. So if you’re planning to come see Memory Lane, make sure that you bring along a camera, lots of stories, and people who make you smile. ;)
