Finding Gifts for Men is a Challenge

Posted by Riz in Shopping Spree

So I went birthday gift-shopping for R last week. It’s a long delayed post, but I really wanted to post this one because I’m curious to find out what gifts you girls give your boyfriends, boy-friends, and/or brothers on special occasions. I once said that women are easy to find gifts for but I mostly said that in comparison to finding gifts for men.

Happy Birthday RicoGuess what’s in the box?

I mean, sure, one can always disagree that it’s a challenge finding men the perfect gifts. There are a lot of items you can wrap to give to the men in your life depending on budget — from as simple as necktie, socks, baseball cap, mug, t-shirt, fountain pen, to as lavish as an expensive watch or an iPod or a gadget he happens to be googling or checking out in gadget stores whenever he gets a chance — I can name a few. But I wanted to deviate from the normal gift-giving and find something special that Rico will both need and want (and no, he doesn’t need more gadgets.)

Having gone through all the clothes boutiques in the mall still unsatisfied with the shirts I got, I found myself in probably the only store left that I haven’t looked in: the hardware store. And there, in some quiet corner where people don’t often go to, I found the perfect gift.

Rico's Birthday

A shiny new Black & Decker handheld vacuum cleaner, which I thought he can use to clean his car interior, among many things.

I’ve never seen him happier. (And I’ve never been more proud, because now he promises to clean his car and room more, heh.)

And there you have it folks. If you want something unique to get your boyfriend OR boy-friends for their birthday, and have not much of a budget to spend in a gadget store, then the hardware store (not the department store) is something to look in. I remember getting R rechargeable batteries with a recharger pack before, and he was all smiles.

Men!

So maybe it’s easy to find gifts for men too, you just have to know where to look. ;)

What’s the last gift you bought your boyfriend/guy-friend/brother? Was it a challenge too?

lol oh that’s wonderful! I absolutely have the hardest time finding gifts for my fiance, that I can actually afford. The last thing I bought him was a tie (so generic) but he adores it!

Yeah, most of the guys I ask are really easy to please and would appreciate little gifts and gestures of love. :)

i agree! it’s so difficult to look for presents for the men in our lives. before all my gifts to my then-boyfriend, now-husband were personalized. i’d spring suprises for him in the office, with his agents as my accomplice. starbucks personalized tumbler with some mushy stuff i wrote yata was my 1st V-day gift for him. then spa certificates (which i will perform — massage, foot scrub), then giant chocolate bar with personalized wrapper. lately, watch then he’d send me links for stuff i can buy online for him. the latest was dreamtheatre’s latest album. but i haven’t really thought of going to the hardware. thanks for the idea! =D

Aww Kaith, that’s really sweet. Haha yeah, I guess sooner or later they would start sending links/wishlists na, but R hasn’t done that yet so for now I give him whatever I think he needs/wants. Then again, I think naman kahit birthday card lang bigay naten masaya na sila hehe

That’s a pretty cool gift. :P I’ve always thought that gift-hunting for men quite a challenge. As a last resort, when I can’t find anything at the mall, I usually end up making something for them. Not anymore, though, since most of my guy friends are guitar freaks – I usually get them accessories for their guitars now. :P

I gave a guitar as a gift to my guy-bestfriend in highschool. P800 lang ata un non but I felt it was soo expensive, hehe. Later on in my life, I received 3 guitars from 3 different guys. One from an ex, one from the same guy-best friend ni highschool, and one from Rico. The last two guitars I still keep. <3

I think it’s the girls who would appreciate guitars as gifts more! :) Hehe
